Pause to Progress - The Power of a 10-minute Nap

By Florence Tsang

As participants engage in a full-day workshop, their focus often wanes over time. To address this, we have intentionally scheduled a 10-minute nap at the start of the afternoon session. For busy professionals, this short rest not only allows them to recharge before diving back into work but also promotes mental clarity and creativity.

The 10-minute nap serves not just as a physical relaxation but also as a mental recharge. Research indicates that as brainwaves transition into a relaxed state, this helps to alleviate stress, reduce fatigue, and consolidate newly acquired information. Such a break enhances participants' memory, enabling them to recall and apply what they have learned more effectively.

According to a study published in the American Psychological Association Journal, short naps (approximately 10 to 20 minutes) significantly improve attention and reaction times. Additionally, research from the University of California, Berkeley, suggests that napping aids memory consolidation, particularly after learning new information, allowing participants to better retain and use what they have absorbed.

This brief pause not only sharpens focus but also stimulates creativity, encouraging participants to generate more innovative ideas during problem-solving activities. A study by the National Institutes of Health found that participants who took a nap performed better on creative problem-solving tests, as napping enhances the brain's associative capabilities. A nap helps clear the mind, allowing participants to concentrate more fully on their tasks upon waking, thereby increasing overall efficiency.

Our people-centric approach aims to enhance learning outcomes and improve the overall experience for participants. Through these thoughtful arrangements, we aspire to provide moments of tranquility and rejuvenation amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life, better preparing participants to tackle future challenges.
